Filming is currently in progress for a second series of three 90-minute episodes, initially due to air in late 2011.[46] However, a continuity announcement at the conclusion of series 1’s repeat broadcast indicated that series 2 is now due to air in 2012. At the Kapow! 2011 comic convention, Mark Gatiss confirmed that the three episodes would be based on the stories “A Scandal in Bohemia”, “The Hound of the Baskervilles” and “The Final Problem” and that the writers for the episodes would be Moffat, Gatiss and Thompson respectively.[47] Gatiss explained, “We knew after having a successful first run that the natural order would be to do three of the most famous [stories]”.[47] ”There’s the question of how to go out on a cliffhanger and then the thematic things of the three stories, where we were trying to get to and what Sherlock and John’s relationship is a little further on. You can’t just go back to: ‘You have no emotions.’ ‘I don’t care.’ You’ve got to move on somewhere and make sure the other characters have something of a journey too.”[47] Paul McGuigan has confirmed that he will be returning to direct two episodes of series two,[48][49] and Doctor Who director Toby Haynes has also announced he will be working on the series.[50] Filming began on 16 May 2011, with the BBC Press Office confirming details of the upcoming series, including the return of the main cast and production team. Sue Vertue will produce the first two episodes of the series and Elaine Cameron will produce the third. Vertue will receive an executive producer credit for this episode.[51] It has been announced that actor Russell Tovey will appear in “The Hounds of Baskerville”[52] and that Lara Pulver will portray Irene Adler [53]
T-T I was sooo looking forward to it airing somewhere autumn 2011… <n< however the good news is its coming :P FINALLY THE CLIFF-HANGER FRUSTRATION WILL BE CURED!!!!!
