Find the differences.
(Hint: it’s the clothes)
It’s been a while but this I just had to share. It struck me as I was watching the new season of the Sekaiichi Hatsukoi anime which I had really enjoyed as a manga that the gap between the manga and the anime is rather wide. As it was as well with Junjou Romantica from the same author and animation group. Somehow there always seems to be something blocking the view. T-T My fangirl heart weeps.
Either way this one made me snort, then laugh.
Part of Takano’s charm in the manga is the fact that he is always taking liberties with Ritchan’s body because he knows they both like it even though Ritsu won’t admit it. The story here is: Acting on feelings he is not supposed to have Ritsu stops Takano from going to see his cat at his friend and ex-lovers place. He was headed there because Ritsu’s fiancé was waiting in front of his apartment and still seemed to be very much in love with him even though he turned her down already. (I know, I know. It sounds like a major soap, and it is! But it’s just too cute… <v<)
Having almost told Takano he actually loves him after all, in both the manga and the anime, they fall into bed after that. However in the manga they fall into bed to have vigorous sex first before curling up like that while in the anime they just kiss and curl up together as they were, clothes and all.
Long story short the difference is kind of cute and frustrating at the same time. It being the same scene with the same dialogue but ending up with a different visual turns it into a different genre altogether. It clearly shows the difference between tv and printing. Audience and cost always go hand in hand. Like they say in publishing: Mind the gap.
